Here are some thoughts from two kitchen designers who were named to House Beautiful magazine's best designer list:
"We used to think large stainless steel cooktops and appliances were only for the professional cook. But today, lots of people, regardless of their cooking expertise, want to feel like professional cooks," says Mary Douglas Drysdale of Washington D.C. -based Drysdal, Inc.
"We want our kitchens to evoke the look and feel of professionalism. Big ranges and refrigerators are becoming more common. There is a merging of the professional cooking environment with the home environment," she adds.
Quality, performance and durability are also driving the stainless steel kitchen trend. "People are looking for quality, and stainless steel appliances reflect that quality," says Randy Brown of the Randy Brown Architect studio in Omaha, Nebraska.
